Here we will summarize the current knowledge about improved mRNA vaccines, i.e., the self-amplifying mRNA (saRNA) vaccines. This approach may enhance antigen expression by amplification of the antigen-encoding RNA. RNA design, RNA delivery, and the innate immune responses induced by RNA will be reviewed.","abstract_license":"CC-BY (article license as recorded by Europe PMC; abstract reproduced unmodified apart from markup removal)","license":"CC-BY","is_open_access":true,"retracted":false,"peer_reviewed":null,"categories":[],"details":null,"provenance":"europepmc","attribution":"Abstract of \"Self-Amplifying RNA Vaccine Candidates: Alternative Platforms for mRNA Vaccine Development\" by Schmidt C, Schnierle BS, https://doi.org/10.3390/pathogens12010138, used under its Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY); markup removed, otherwise unmodified.","topics":[{"slug":"mrna-cancer-vaccines","name":"mRNA Therapeutics & Cancer Vaccines","domain_slug":"medicine"}],"cited_in_dossiers":[]}
