The addition of cabozantinib to the usual treatment may make it work better. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab and ipilimumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Cabozantinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known how well the combination of cabozantinib and nivolumab after initial treatment with ipilimumab and nivolumab works in treating patients with renal cell cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.","abstract_license":"ClinicalTrials.gov (U.S. National Library of Medicine), data processed 2026-10-29T09:00:05; modifications: selected fields only; whitespace normalized; brief summary truncated to 2,000 characters","license":"ClinicalTrials.gov terms (attribution, processing date, modifications noted)","is_open_access":true,"retracted":false,"peer_reviewed":null,"categories":["Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Bone","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Lymph Nodes","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Soft Tissue","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Viscera","Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidney"],"details":{"acronym":null,"status":"ACTIVE_NOT_RECRUITING","phase":"PHASE3","study_type":"INTERVENTIONAL","enrollment":1175,"sponsor":"National Cancer Institute (NCI)","conditions":["Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Bone","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Lymph Nodes","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Soft Tissue","Metastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Viscera","Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidney","Sarcomatoid Renal Cell Carcinoma","Stage III Renal Cell Cancer AJCC v8","Stage IV Renal Cell Cancer AJCC v8"],"interventions":["PROCEDURE: Biospecimen Collection","PROCEDURE: Bone Scan","DRUG: Cabozantinib","PROCEDURE: Computed Tomography","BIOLOGICAL: Ipilimumab","PROCEDURE: Magnetic Resonance Imaging","BIOLOGICAL: Nivolumab","OTHER: Quality-of-Life Assessment","OTHER: Questionnaire Administration"],"start_date":"2019-06-07","start_date_type":"ACTUAL","primary_completion_date":"2028-03-01","has_results":false,"data_source":"ClinicalTrials.gov","data_processed":"2026-10-29T09:00:05","modifications":"selected fields only; whitespace normalized; brief summary truncated to 2,000 characters"},"provenance":"clinicaltrials","attribution":"Source: ClinicalTrials.gov (U.S. National Library of Medicine), data processed 2026-10-29T09:00:05; modifications: selected fields only; whitespace normalized; brief summary truncated to 2,000 characters.
