GLP-1 receptor agonists such as Semaglutide have emerged as effective weight loss agents that may also reduce chronic pain through weight reduction and other mechanisms. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will enroll 250 adults with chronic low back pain and obesity, randomized 1:1 to weekly Semaglutide 2.4 mg or placebo for 52 weeks. The primary outcome is change in low back pain severity, with secondary outcomes including pain-related disability and quality of life.","abstract_license":"ClinicalTrials.gov (U.S. National Library of Medicine), data processed 2026-10-29T09:00:05; modifications: selected fields only; whitespace normalized; brief summary truncated to 2,000 characters","license":"ClinicalTrials.gov terms (attribution, processing date, modifications noted)","is_open_access":true,"retracted":false,"peer_reviewed":null,"categories":["Lower Back Pain","Obesity (BMI>30)","Chronic Lower Back Pain","glp1 Agonist"],"details":{"acronym":null,"status":"NOT_YET_RECRUITING","phase":"PHASE2","study_type":"INTERVENTIONAL","enrollment":250,"sponsor":"Washington University School of Medicine","conditions":["Lower Back Pain","Obesity (BMI>30)","Chronic Lower Back Pain","glp1 Agonist"],"interventions":["DRUG: Semaglutide (administered by PDS290 pen-injector)","DRUG: Placebo (administered by PDS290 pen-injector)"],"start_date":"2027-02-01","start_date_type":"ESTIMATED","primary_completion_date":"2031-01-01","has_results":false,"data_source":"ClinicalTrials.gov","data_processed":"2026-10-29T09:00:05","modifications":"selected fields only; whitespace normalized; brief summary truncated to 2,000 characters"},"provenance":"clinicaltrials","attribution":"Source: ClinicalTrials.gov (U.S. National Library of Medicine), data processed 2026-10-29T09:00:05; modifications: selected fields only; whitespace normalized; brief summary truncated to 2,000 characters.
