Abstract

We present SAGE26, a comprehensive update to the Semi-Analytic Galaxy Evolution (SAGE) model. SAGE26 integrates five observationally motivated improvements: (1) distinct circumgalactic medium and hot-halo gas physics, (2) molecular hydrogen for star formation, (3) velocity- and redshift-dependent supernova feedback, (4) bulge radii tracking through time, and (5) feedback-free burst galaxies. Each improvement works to regulate galaxy formation from cosmic dawn to the present. Most significantly, the addition of feedback-free burst galaxies provides a pathway to produce high-redshift massive galaxies at the abundances observed by the James Webb Space Telescope. Furthermore, the new circumgalactic medium framework improves the treatment of baryons by distinguishing between free-fall-limited inflow in low-mass haloes and hydrostatic cooling in massive groups and clusters using a characteristic halo shock mass. SAGE26 reproduces key observational constraints across cosmic time, including the stellar mass function and cosmic star formation rate density, while retaining the computational efficiency and flexibility of its predecessor. The code and data products are open-source and publicly available.
