Abstract
We design a novel linked-mirror device (LMD) with a magnetic well using the near-axis expansion (NAE) method. The design consists of two parallel straight mirror sections connected at both ends by three-dimensional stellarator-like magnetic fields , thereby eliminating the end-loss problem of a single magnetic mirror. By designing appropriate three-dimensional magnetic fields, we obtain an LMD configuration with a magnetic well, ensuring stability against interchange modes. The existence of finite-\b{eta} equilibria of the LMD is demonstrated by numerical solutions of the 3D equilibrium code GVEC. This design is potentially a novel solution to magnetic confinement for fusion reactors.
