Direct Detection of Millicharged Particles from Evaporating Primordial Black Holes
Biprajit Mondal
Abstract
We investigate the direct detection of millicharge particles produced via Hawking evaporation of neutral primordial black holes (PBHs). As they travel through the Galactic magnetic field and then Earth's overburden, they lose energy before reaching an underground detector. Using electron recoil signals, we obtain constraints on the mass and charge parameter space for XENONnT, JUNO and Super-K for evolved PBH populations with initial mass $ M_i=10^{15}~\rm g$ and $ M_i=8\times10^{15}~\rm g$ with initial abundances $f_i^{\rm PBH}=3.9\times10^{-7}$ and $f_i^{\rm PBH}=3.7\times10^{-4}$, respectively. In the relevant parameter space, this model can provide strong constraints in the high mass region.
