FCC-μe: High Energy, High Luminosity Muon-Electron Collider & Neutrino Factory at CERN
K. Piotrzkowski
Abstract
The concept is presented of making at the FCC-$ee$ (or CEPC) facility $μ^+e^-$ collisions at the centre-of-mass energy between 1 and 2 TeV and the average luminosity above $10^{34}$cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, concurrently to the $e^+e^-$ collisions. First, a concise scientific motivation is given, including the exciting prospect of measurements of the Higgs boson self-interaction, and is followed by a presentation of the FCC-$μe$ layout -- from the source of ultra-cold anti-muons, through the muon booster, to the main muon ring. Basic considerations are also given regarding the machine-detector interface and the performance of the FCC-$μe$ and associated neutrino factory. The paper concludes with an outlook underlying relevance of such anti-muon beams for any future high energy storage ring as well as for neutrino science.
